破折號的用法

一、解釋說明

例句：Donovan believed in using whatever tools came to hand in the "great game" of espionage --spying as a profession.

譯文：Donovan認為一切手段都可以應用于"espionage"這一偉大事業(yè)--職業(yè)間諜。

解析：很多人不認識"espionage"這個單詞的意思，通過破折號引出的解釋說明部分，不難理解它的意思是"間諜"。

例句：How lucky the girls nowadays are!--they can go anywhere,say anything.

譯文：今天的女孩子多幸福啊!她們哪兒都能去，什么話都能說。

二、概括總結

例句：New houses，larger schools，more sheep，more pigs and chickens，more horse and donkeys--everywhere we saw signs of the commune's prosperity.
