1.Psychiatric tests show that a well-balanced person gets much angrier when offended than an abnormal person does. At the New York State Psychiatric Institute, Dr. James Page and Professor of Psychology Carney Landis of Columbia University studied the reaction of 200 normal persons and 210 abnormal persons. They tested their reactions to annoying situations of every type and variety such as: being laughed at, being repeatedly disconnected on the telephone, accidentally hitting their thumb with a hammer, being worked on by a backseat driver, being told to "shut up" and mind their own business, discovering someone cheating in a friendly card game, etc. In almost every instance the anger reaction of the normal group was much more intense than that of the abnormal one.
"This," they reported, "is agreeing with other psychiatric findings. For one of the outstanding symptoms of mental unbalance is lack of emotion. So if you blow your top when you hit your head against a piece of furniture, or when your girlfriend goes out with another young man--don"t worry about it. It is just a sign that you are normal."

7.What is wind? You can feel it, and you can sometimes hear it, too. You can"t see the wind, but you can see all kinds of plants and flowers moving in the wind. Grass moves in the wind. So do trees. What is the wind? It is moving air.
What makes the air move? Think of two places. They may be close to each other, or they may be far away. The air is cold in one place. But it is hot in the other. Warm air pushes up high into the sky. It goes higher than the cold air. The colder air then moves into the place where the warmer air used to be. The moving air is wind.
Winds move clouds in the sky. A nice day can turn cloudy in a short while. Sometimes the clouds are big and dark. Big, dark clouds hold a lot of water. Soon it begins to rain.
High winds can make a storm come fast. They can make a lot of noise, too. Sometimes they sound like a train going by. Very high winds have picked up big things like cars and trucks from the ground. Some have even picked up houses!
But most winds are much lighter. You can have fun in a lighter wind ff you have a kite. Do you know how to fly one? Just let the wind take the kite high into the sky.

13.Before the 1870"s, trained nurses were virtually unknown in the United States. Hospital nursing was an unskilled occupation, taken up by women of the lower classes, some of whom were conscripted from the penitentiary or the almshouse. The movement for reform. originated not with doctors, but among upped-class women, who had taken on the role of guardians of a new hygienic order. Though some doctors approved of the women"s desire to establish a nurse training school, which would attract the daughters of the middle class, other medical men were opposed. Plainly threatened by the prospect, they objected that educated nurses would not do as they were told -- a remarkable comment on the status anxieties of nineteenth-century physicians. But the women reformers did not depend on the physicians" approval. When resisted, as they were at Bellevue in efforts to install trained nurses on the maternity wards, they went over the heads of the doctors to men of their own class of greater power and authority. (Florence Nightingale, who had friends high in the English government, had followed exactly the same course in reforming her country"s military hospitals.) Professional nursing, in short, emerged neither from medical discoveries nor from a program of hospital reform. initiated by physicians, outsiders saw the need first.
